This day marked a very special day. On September 29, our friends, Casey Burnie and Alexandra Mckee, got married. I’ve spoken a lot about my friend Mollie and how great her family has been to me these past couple of years. From giving me a room to sleep in to including me in their family events. These last few years I have been by their sides through new beginnings and heartbreaks. I have grown very close with the Burnie family and I was grateful that they included me in this special day. Blake and I were told early on that we were invited to the wedding, but it wasn’t until a month (or so) before the wedding that we received our invitation. Apparently, Casey had it for months, but just never got around to giving it to us. Nonetheless, we had already planned to attend the wedding. What we hadn’t preplanned, was that we would both need wedding attire. Women are easier when it comes to this one thing. I was able to get a dress a week before the wedding without any problems, but Blake had to hurry out 4 days before the wedding for a new suit. Luckily for us, he was able to find one and get it shipped and minimally tailored before the wedding the next day. Shoutout to Gentry Apparel in Downtown Peterborough for helping Blake to find the perfect suit at the last minute and making him look amazing.
On Saturday, we headed up to Orillia for the wedding. We stayed at the Quality Inn, also known as the Highwayman Inn, just off of the highway. It wasn’t great, but it did the trick. Unfortunately, when we arrived, our room wasn't yet ready. We had been expecting that, so we made arrangements to get ready in Jessie Burnie's room (Mollie's sister-in-law). Jordan and Jessie live up in Ottawa, which means that we don't get to see them very often, so it was nice being able to have a minute before the mayhem to catch up with what's new in their lives. We didn't have much time before we had to head over to the wedding, so Blake rushed down to check us in before hopping onto the bus. Mollie's uncle owns a bus, so his gift to the happy couple was free bus shuttles to and from the hotel and wedding. It turns out that there were two weddings commuting from the hotel because some people ended up on the wrong bus. I know Mollie's uncle so it wasn't a problem for us. We ended up arriving a little late to the wedding location because we were stopped at a Tim Hortons awaiting some of the guests for longer than expected. Once we finally left, the wedding was just a short drive away.

The wedding was held at Northbrook Farm in Orillia. This venue is a 10 acre owned property with a century farmhouse. The owners actually live in the house, so guests weren't able to explore that part, but we were given free-range to the beautiful grounds. The bridal party had been getting ready in the home and Mollie said that it was fascinating because they had kept a lot of the original architecture inside. Since we were on the first bus, it meant that the next bus shuttle was later and stalled the wedding a little bit. The bus shuttle from the other wedding was kind enough to drop off the silly ducks that headed off to the wrong wedding.

Finally, the show started! I remember hearing in a movie...I think it was "27 Dresses"...that, although seeing the beautiful bride is amazing, I always like to look at the groom's face. It's so true. The moment that the groom sees his future bride is always so magical. Casey started getting emotional when he first saw Alex and you could feel the love. The ceremony was short and sweet; and was held outside by a small pond. It was a little chilly outside, but I had brought the wrap that Blake made for me a couple of Christmas' ago and it was definitely a life saver. I wish I could say more about the ceremony, but I couldn't hear a darn thing. This is one of my biggest wedding pet peeves, which is when the ceremony isn't mic'ed. The DJ was standing near the music speakers with a microphone, so I'm not sure why it wasn't provided during the ceremony, but it was definitely hard to hear anything. After the ceremony, there was a brief cocktail hour before they opened up the tented reception. I didn't really eat too much during the cocktail hour. They had assorted cheeses, crackers, and grapes; but the one thing I did devour were the jumbo shrimp. Yummy!!! Once we were too cold to be outside anymore, we headed into the tent where the reception was being held. Inside they had propane heaters (which died at about 9:30pm) The wedding party danced in to "Jump on it" and the speeches were started. Jordan was the best man and he's always been known to have a certain way with words, which was definitely proven with his speech. It was funny and emotional. Afterwards, the buffet dinner was served. For dinner there was pulled pork, mac and cheese, chicken, vegetables, and salad. Both the pulled pork and mac n cheese were delicious. Definitely some of the best pulled pork I have ever had. The one downside about the meal was that the chicken, although tasty, had so many tiny bones in it, that it wasn't enjoyable to eat. Nonetheless, the food was overall good and comfortable. For dessert, they had cupcakes and assorted squares. After all of the speeches were made and the dances were done, they had a little game for the bride and groom's brothers. It was the back-to-back, raising shoes, "who knows the bride and groom better" sort of game. I don't think Jordan won.

Once the dance floor opened up, people were having a good time dancing and having fun. As you know, I don't drink alcohol anymore, so I didn't have anything flowing through my veins to keep my warm. Therefore ... especially once the heaters were all out of propane ...I was freezing cold. I was able to hold out until about 11pm, but I was pretty miserable by the time were left. When we arrived at the hotel, there was a little bit of excitement to end our night. The bus had hit the awning of the hotel and a drunken brawl started between some of the wedding guests with some random hotel guests. Blake and I just quietly walked past and thought it was best to not get involved. Once back in our hotel room, I brushed out my hair causing a ridiculous rat's nest before heading to bed. I was exhausted!
The next morning, I woke up early and watched some tv before packing up all of our stuff to head home. I made sure to double check the room to make sure that we hadn't left anything behind this time. I played it safe and had left my eye mask at home this time. We had a miscommunication with Mollie with regards to breakfast, but eventually decided to go out for breakfast. We stopped at a spot called Friend's Diner and had a delicious eggs and sausage breakfast. They also sold homemade soup there, so Blake bought some (which ended up being mediocre) before we headed home.
It had been a long weekend, but it was worth it to see our two friends get married! Congratulations Casey and Alex!
