Countdown to Christmas: 7 days

People left to shop for: 3

I'm not going to lie to you ... I honestly can't remember most of what happened this weekend. I do remember thinking, "oh yes, this will definitely be a story I have to share in my blog," but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. I need to start writing this stuff down! So I guess this week's post will be short, but hopefully a double post as I'm a little delayed on this one, what with Christmas being a week away!

What I do remember is that Blake and I got a lot of our Christmas shopping done. We spent all of Saturday shopping and doing our best to complete our Christmas lists. If you know us, then you'll know that we have our signature treats that we make every year and, although we haven't made them yet, we are all set and ready to go. Just need to find to time to actually make them. This year has been so hectic with Blake and I living apart. It makes it harder to get stuff done, but we have actually done well with getting our Christmas shopping done. Neither one of us enjoy shopping, so this was quite the event for us. Sometimes the holiday season can get chaotic and you end up losing sight of what matters, which is love and family, so it was nice to spend the time together; even if it was during shopping.

Saturday night we headed down to meet up with Blake's family to go Christmas tree hunting. Every year we get the family together and go pick out a Christmas tree together. Here's how the event usually goes... (Blake's description) We arrive and walk all the way to the very back of the field. We spend (what feels like) an eternity looking for a tree. We start off running with excitement and pick some great trees that no one agrees are great. Then, someone in Blake's family (whom will remain nameless) gets cold and chooses a random tree. Tree gets cut down. The End. So, really why bother ... but the tradition is important to Blake and seeing as his family doesn't actually have many traditions, I figured we should keep this one. So we went .... and .... drum roll please ... they picked my tree!!! It was an honor and a privilege. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was so proud of myself and it felt like I was officially accepted into the family. Again, I know it sounds foolish, but it did and I was happy. Took long enough!! (6 years in January) Here's the tree:

Ain't she beautiful! I have to give myself a moment of props for these pictures because Blake's family hates pictures and I totally nailed not getting any of their faces in these pictures, so they can't get mad for me posting them! Yay me! Haha!

I was kind of bummed that after the tree cutting I had to head back home to beat the darkness on the highway. Blake's whole family isn't all together very often and won't be for Christmas, so it would have been nice to spend more time with them. We always have a great time together.

So, that's the tree story. Not much to this weekend ... that I can remember. Do you get a real tree or a fake one?
