Mosh Pit, Massages, and so much more ...

This past weekend was a very busy weekend for me. It started on Friday with my friend Kristen and I going to a Silverstein concert. I had to work on Friday until 4 p.m. so I rushed home after work to get ready to head down to Oshawa for the concert. It ended up that I didn't need to rush because the concert didn't start until 10 p.m. (What?! That's my bedtime!!) Kristen didn't want to see any of the opening acts, which started at 8 p.m., so we arrived at the venue at approximately 9:30 p.m. The concert was held at The Music Hall in the downtown area of Oshawa, near the GM Centre. I think that the venue is usually a club, so it was quite intimate. We listened to a few songs from one of the openers and I got hit with the awful realization that I am becoming an old lady because it was just so loud! I already have issues with my hearing and fluid build-up in my ears, but I felt like my eardrums were going to pop. I had to buy earplugs at the venue to help block out some of the amplification. I think because the venue was so small, the sound more easily bounced off the walls and made everything seem louder. Listening to the music with earplugs in wasn't all that bad; you can actually hear the singing a lot better. I still made sure my ears were covered by my hair though because no one wants to be that person at a concert with earplugs ... what a loser.
A little bit of information on Silverstein for those you that don't know the group. Silverstein is a Canadian post-hardcore band from Burlington, Ontario. They are been around since 2000 and got their name from the famous children's author Shel Siverstein. They have released 8 studio albums. Most people would be surprised to know that Silverstein is one of Kristen's favourite musical groups. While everyone else at the concert was moshing or crowd-surfing in jeans and a t-shirt ... Kristen wore high heels and a pink sparkly dress to the concert. Don't be fooled by her appearance though as Kristen knows every word to every one of their songs and has been to 8 of their shows including a 4 day concert performance.
The last time Kristen and I went to see Silverstein together was 9 years ago at the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) when we were 15. All those years ago, we took at picture with the lead singer Shane Told, so we wanted to re-create that picture on Friday night. We ended up being the last people out of the Music Hall because we waited for the group to come down. Neither one of us are very outgoing, so it took time for us to get into a position where we could ask to recreate the picture. It ended up that Kristen's sparkly pink dress drew a lot of attention including Shane Told's girlfriend and we ending up having a great conversation with her. She is incredibly nice and also very beautiful. We told her our story of the CNE and so she made sure that we got our picture with Shane. I'll post the past and present pictures below.... the one on the left is us 9 years ago.

I think that we can all agree that we all look better today than we did 9 years ago ... such babies! It was such a fun night and it's always great to see Kristen. I also think that we both looked smokin' hot! Silverstein is doing a special charity show on Kristen's birthday in February which I think is a good example of destiny, so I'm trying to convince her to spend her birthday with me instead of her boyfriend ... I'm still working on it, but you can't beat fate! Maybe both of our boyfriends can come with us and then everyone is happy ... Kristen, if you're reading this, let me know your thoughts on that plan!
Anyways, the next morning I woke up early to have breakfast with my parents and then Blake desperately needed a haircut for the Christmas party on Saturday, so while he did that I got to meet up with another one of my best friends, Paula. Paula and I have been best friends since we attended a Jonas Brother's concert when we were 16. Since we are both busy with work, we don't get to see each other very often so I was so happy that we got the chance to have coffee together even if it was only for an hour. It was great to see her and catch up on what's going on in each other's lives. I was going to post an incredibly old picture of Paula and I together as I have absolutely zero recent pictures, but I feel like she would kill me if I posted any of the ones I was going to, so her face will remain a mystery to those of you that don't know her.

Unfortunately, we had to cut our meet up short as Blake and I had to rush back home to get ready for the Christmas party that night. Mollie and I had booked bamboo relaxation massages at the Urban Spa in Peterborough in their couples room. We had been looking forward to these massages for over a month and yes, we had a couples massage ... only because they offered to give us free mimosas and who doesn't want free mimosas? The massage was so relaxing. They roll hot sticks of bamboo all over your body and are able to give you a deep tissue massage without the usual associated discomfort. It was great and very much needed! Once we were finished, we rushed back and got ready for the Christmas party. (I ended up changing my hair after we took this of picture).
The party was fun and the food was great. We organized a sort of award show and gave awards to the doctors that showed up to the party (they also paid for the party). All of the awards were Christmas themed and some of the doctors got roasted in the process, but it was all in good fun. They all seemed to find it funny and everyone was laughing. Unfortunately the DJ wasn't as good this year as it was last year, so Blake and I ended up leaving relatively early. After the busy 36 hours I had, I was very tired, so it was nice to just lie in bed and sleep.
Earlier this year, Mollie and I attended the Ghostly Gala at the Urban Spa and I won a free hot towel foot exfoliation, so I booked it for the Sunday ... after the hectic weekend I had, my feet needed a little TLC. The spa wasn't busy Sunday morning, so it was nice to have a foot massage in complete silence and just take a moment to breathe. We had taken Mollie's car back to our place the night before as she was ... having more fun than us ... so Blake went to pick up the very hungover Mollie while I was at the spa and then we met up afterwards for breakfast. She filled us in on all of the drunken fun that we missed out on after we left and then we had planned to go to the movies to see Bad Moms Christmas. Since we were pretty confident that Blake wouldn't want to see Bad Moms, we changed our plans to instead see Thor Ragnarok at 3 p.m. That left us with 2 hours until the movie, so we all went back to our house and had a much needed nap. The movie was overall good, but I thought it was too goofy. The whole movie was filled with jokes, even during the more serious scenes, so it all became kind of kitchy. That was a little disappointing because I had enjoyed the previous Thor movies, but, like I said, it was still a good movie overall. I absolutely must point out how much the Thor: Ragnarok villain looked like the villain from the 90's CGI television show Reboot....
...I'll just leave this here. I couldn't get it out of my head and now either can you!

It may have been a crazy hectic weekend, but it was filled with fun memories that I will never forget. This weekend was a good start to the busy December holiday season. I love the Christmas season so much and have a lot of fun things planned this next month, so stay tuned for all of those adventures. What do you have planned for this holiday season? Do you have your Christmas shopping done? (I don't!)
