A Picture Says A Thousand Words

I wanted to share with you the story behind a picture. The picture is one that I drew in February 2012 for me and Blake's 1 month anniversary. It is a picture that means a lot to the both of us and truly describes the love that we have for one another. It’s a picture that few understand and may even misinterpret. Here is the picture:

The “balls” are actually marbles and have been the symbol of our love since the very beginning. If you’ve read my “Our Original Love Story” post, then you know that Blake and I met in science class in Grade 10. In that class we were assigned a project to create a car that would have to surpass a certain distance. If it made it to the finish line we’d pass, if not then we would fail. Here’s a picture of my group’s car - we even had a too-cool-for-school license plate:

Jumping ahead to race day...needless to say our car didn’t do so well in the first heat. We were discouraged when our car went down the ramp and veered hard left, but we had a second chance; we just needed to make our car better. That’s where Blake and the marbles stepped in. His group’s car did great so they didn’t need to complete a second run. He gave us the marbles to drag behind our car in hopes of weighing it down more and helping it continue straight. It worked! We passed!
Ever since then, Blake considered those two marbles his lucky charms when it came to me. He took them on every one of our dates the first time around and brought them along when we reunited in 2012. To him (and now me) they were a symbol of us. So that is why I included them in my drawing.
The second part of the picture are the hands creating the heart. Those are actual depictions of my hands. It felt impersonal to draw someone else’s hands. Also, I couldn’t find an image online of the specific idea I had, so I created it myself. It was another piece of me to add to this personal gift. I wanted to give Blake my heart and soul, and I wanted him to know that he had all of me … that I wasn’t going anywhere. He had my heart, so he was stuck with me.
So that’s it. It seems simple and silly to write this whole post just to explain a drawing, but I wanted to share the message and for people to appreciate this artwork as much as we do. I hope that the image brings a smile to your face and a warmth in your heart as much as it does for us.
